If you’ve read my post about How to Make Our Family’s Favorite Pizza Dough recipe, then you know how we feel about pizza in the Bentley household!
It’s an easy and fun meal we cook as a family every week, and it’s much less expensive than ordering takeout pizza.
This recipe makes enough sauce for 4 large pizzas. You can easily cut it in half or double it to suit your needs.
Ingredients
You only need 4 ingredients!
- San Marzano Style tomatoes
- dried oregano
- fresh basil leaves
- salt
The tomatoes you use are the most important ingredient as they are the base for the sauce. We use San Marzano Style tomatoes because they are extremely flavorful. We buy this 28-ounce can at the grocery store that we like. However, if you really want to add lots of flavor to your pizza sauce, you can purchase authentic San Marzano tomatoes. These are pricey, but if they are in your budget, they’re well worth it!
Cut the fresh basil by stacking the leaves and rolling them together. Then, thinly slice it. If you don’t have fresh basil leaves, use dried basil instead.
Tools
I prefer using a handheld stick blender to mix all the ingredients together. You can also use a blender or food processor, depending on how thick or thin you like your sauce. The more you blend it, the thinner your sauce will be.
Tip: If you like your sauce very thick, you can add a 6-ounce can of tomato paste.
Blend it all!
Put all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and blend them all together – there’s your sauce! It’s as easy as that. No need to cook it – it’s ready to spread on your favorite pizza dough.
My family hopes you enjoy this recipe!
